If you have to drive to work and back every day, you’ll understand by now why a lot of us consider our cars to be like a second home…. A mobile second home that you can sing along to Bon Jovi really loudly in.
Just like in your own house, you need to consider what supplies you might need if the weather, or fate, decides to deflate your bubble (or your tyres). Not having these car essentials in your car is as god as selling your car to a scrap yard. We asked around and here are the top 10 things we recommend keeping with you in your car at all times…
- A spare tyre
Yeah, the one around your waist from all those Spur ‘all you can eat’ rib nights isn’t quite going to cut it.
You need to make sure that you have a properly sized spare tyre, a jack and a spanner in your car at all times. Even if you have a boyfriend or flatmate who usually does that kind of thing for you, knowing how to change a tyre is a valuable life skill. And it will take you, like, 10 minutes to learn how on YouTube.
(P.S. You can also rely on 24/7 road assistance from the king if you’re in a real jam, we just want you to feel confident in your own tyre changing abilities. We believe in you. You’ve got this, boo boo.)
- Jumper cables
Again, this is one of those basic emergency manoeuvres that you really need to know if you’re going to be out driving around. Even if you’re not the one with the flat battery, you can look like a total superhero when you come to someone else’s rescue with your jumper cables. Just be careful and make sure you don’t cross the cables…. You’ll get a nasty shock.
- A first aid kit
A small enough first aid kit should include any bandages, gauze, and disinfectant that you might need in an emergency. If you’re planning a long trip, you should also consider supplementing it with painkillers, diarrhoea medicine, anti-nausea medicine and anything else you could imagine needing.
- A flashlight
And some spare batteries for it…
- The King Price Accident Form
The accident form from King Price will help guide you through the first few, disorienting minutes following a car accident. Remember to also save the king’s emergency number onto your phone and write it down somewhere in your car (0860 55 55 23).
- Water
Keep some unopened water bottles on hand. These will be handy if you need to stay hydrated while you wait for help.
- A map book
Yup, the kind with real pages and everything. Your phone might be able to do just about everything under the sun, but it can’t charge itself now…. Or can it?
- A mobile phone charger
These neat little mobile fuel cells provide a great emergency source of power if your phone battery dies. Keep one fully charged somewhere in your car, so you can make an emergency call when you need to.
And no, Facebook is not an emergency.
- Toilet paper
‘Nuff said.
10. Your car’s manual
When in doubt, you can always see if your car just needs some oil or water…. And if it’s more complicated than that, your mechanic should be able to reference the manual before stripping the engine. If you find that your car is completely totaled, then it better to find a Scrap metal recycling center which can get you the right price for your car and recycle your car rather than taking it and dumping it on an barren land.
For people in the construction industry or even if you are just interested and practice carpentry at home as a hobby the milwaukee hammer drill is the perfect tool to own. Its robust handles and Powerful 9.0 AMP motor makes it the ideal tool to use on both wood and metal for various crafting purposes.
Whatever you do, don’t look at the emergency lights on your dashboard and apply your own crazy interpretation.
Of course, the best thing you can take with you on any trip is the peace of mind that comes from having comprehensive car insurance, and being covered by the king.
